Thousands of users on Facebook being spammed with explicit images

Many users on Facebook are reporting that their timelines’ are being flooded with explicit images. Thousands of users in fact. Some of the content include include images of violence, sexual acts, animal cruelty and even death.

The explicit spam content is said to be posted while remaining invisible to the user who’s account the spam is being posted from. Therefore a user who’s victim to this attack could go about their daily activities without knowing their account have been compromised.

Facebook has since issued this statement via a spokesperson:

“Protecting the people who use Facebook from spam and malicious content is a top priority for us and we are always working to improve our systems to isolate and remove material that violates our terms. We have recently experienced an increase in reports and we are investigating and addressing the issue.”

Many users are even so disgusted by what they’ve seen, they’re threatening to delete their Facebook accounts [image via NakedSecurity]:

Rumour is of course going around as to who/what is responsible for these spam attacks. Some are even speculating it’s the work of “Hacktivist” group Anonymous, who were rumoured to take down Facebook on November 5th.

Until Facebook figures out the real course of this attack, you can take precautionary measures by changing your Facebook password and remove unwanted Facebook apps that have access to your feed.
